Technical analysis · 12 March 2020 · 8 min read

Article from the Mundo Drone archive, published 12 March 2020 and updated 29 June 2020. Text merged on 28 October 2026 from all its 2020 versions; specifications, availability and regulations may have changed since.

Hubsan Zino drone's cover letter is really good: quality of the materials quite good, records in 4K, 3-axis mechanical gimbal that stabilizes very well, a design that is certainly very similar to the DJI Mavic and a very complete package for its class.

Let's see if this drone is as much as it seems.

Analysis and characteristics of Hubsan Zino

Usually, when you're looking to buy a drone, people look for the best possible features within the range they need. At the top end of the market, choosing between drones with similar characteristics can be a demanding decision. So, what about a mid-range proposition like the Hubsan Zino?

It is clear that this drone has had a massive influence on DJI Mavic. Aimed at those who want a drone with very good features but in a more accessible range. So let's see how this drone is measured and whether it's a profitable version of Mavic.

The Hubsan Zino has some dimensions 28 x 28 x 12 cm and weight 700 grs.

Before we begin, say that there is a Hubsan Zino Pro, which differs from the normal model basically in that the range of range places the model Pro at about 4000 meters and this model at 3000 meters.

Let's dive into some basic specifications of this drone. The camera is mounted on a three-axis gimbal, which provides Ultra HD 4K 30FPS video and 12MP still images, GPS/GLONASS dual positioning systems, 23 minutes flight time, a range of 2,500 meters and the very useful folding design popularized by DJI Mavic.

The camera itself is a positive point in this class, as it is first mounted on a 3-axis mechanical gimbal, which is always good news as it is the most accurate stabilization system that exists. To this we add that we are talking about a camera capable of recording at 4K, which means that at least a 128GB micro SD card with good speed will be needed.

The complete package in box includes everything that is needed, it would only be advisable to purchase some more spare batteries. As a quick summary, the box contains the drone itself, a battery, remote control, two sets of propellers, two sets of propeller screws, cardan protector, wrench, power adapter, charger, USB chargers for both the drone and the controller, three RC cables and a user manual.

The design of the Hubsan Zino differs slightly from the Mavic, with a more curved front face and just as easy to fold and store. Once fully deployed, the drone is 304.6 mm long, 252.4 mm wide and 90 mm high. Large enough to assume a variety of climatic conditions.

The body of the drone is made of good quality materials. Brushless engines yield more than drones that mount conventional motors with brushes, which this efficiency also has an impact on flight autonomy.

The included controller is a HT106 folding remote controller with dual antennas and has a very simple design. Most of the control is done via a smartphone or tablet, with a handy mounting support for a smartphone up to seven inches. All the functions are very simple to use and you will never feel overwhelmed by their difficulty.

In general, the whole package gives a sense of quality, which leads to checking how this drone works in real life.

As one might expect from a Mavic drone, it contains a lot of electronics inside to facilitate flight and stability. A dual GPS/GLONASS positioning system is used with a good set of automatic flight features including waypoints mode, orbit mode and follow me.

There is also a flight line where you can set a custom angle and direction through the smartphone app included, image tracking to focus subjects on the frame, a very good 360° panoramic mode, where a touch on a button captures a 360° panoramic video. back home, loss of fail-proof control and low battery failure-proof landing. These characteristics should at least cover most of the basic concepts that you would need or expect from a more advanced drone.

As for the initial flight, it is very fast and easy to start, with take-off and landing with a single button. In addition, the drone has a good maximum speed 60 km/k. Not as fast as the DJI Mavic Pro, but with a range of 2,500 meters, this should cover most of the needs unless you are starting to raid drone races, so there are already other options in the market.

The drone lets you know when batteries start running out with LEDs under each engine. After approximately 19 minutes of flight time, the Hubsan Zino will inform you that you need to return home, so you can land safely or perform the function automatically in the worst case.

With lots of automatic flight functions on board, this drone feels really easy to fly and, unless there are very strong winds, the drone is very stable in flight. This means that for those who want to focus on their video skills, they don't need hundreds of hours of flying time to understand the basics.

The quality of the videos is also impressive. Extremely stabilized and provides a good degree of detail. Not as much as other options from a far higher range, but it remains impressive enough for its class.

This drone features intelligent flight modes, such as the Follow Me. Scan the object to follow and the drone chases him. It also has the mode Line Fly that allows the scheduling of flights in the direction and angle we want, which is really useful if we want to use it to make original selfies. It is also capable of flying on a scheduled path that we trace simply drawing it on the mobile device.

In general, you can say that the feeling is that this drone delivers on every front and gives you exactly what you expected. It's not as ultra-refined as other higher-tier options, but it's still extremely capable.

Although the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and the Hubsan Zino belong to completely different ranges, it is interesting to see how they compare. Although the basic designs are similar and both provide 4K video, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro has higher quality features.

For example, the Hasselblad 20MP camera, which also has a one-inch CMOS sensor and an adjustable opening f / 2.8-f / 11. 10-bit Dlog-M video and 10-bit HDR and a stabilization system that makes the footage seem to be taken from a tripod.

There are also plenty of other advanced features ranging from automatic flight and more professional video and photo operation. In other words, if you want to dive into a fully professional camera drone, you can't go wrong with DJI Mavic 2 Pro. It is, however, gear from a much higher range than this drone.

Pros and cons of this Drone

  • Excellent features for its class
  • High flight stability even in medium wind conditions
  • Very good video quality
  • Quality of proper drone plastics that are not premium
  • The gimbal gives a feeling of fragility, as was the case with the first version of Mavic

Conclusions

Although the Hubsan Zino has been labeled by some as a DJI Mavic Pro killer, it's not really on the same level of professionalism. It definitely has many high quality attributes, such as 4K UHD resolution, smart flight battery and a good degree of flying time. But, the DJI Mavic Pro is definitely in a higher league and therefore you get more features at a higher level.

However, compared to other drones in the same class, such as the DJI SparkThe Hubsan Zino has better specifications, although it sits a step higher. Basically, if you want a drone with all the functions, with a very capable stabilized camera, then you can't be too wrong about the Hubsan Zino. It contains many interesting features and will be the ideal solution for beginners or those who want a high-quality entry-level drone.
