Airial Robotics, based in Hamburg, Germany, and with branches in Hungary and the United Kingdom, has introduced an innovative unmanned aerial vehicle transport system that redefines the possibilities of commercial drone applications: the recently developed and patented Gyrotrak technology platform.

Based on a new hybrid concept, Airial Robotics has created a new UAV class which clearly exceeds the industry's current standards in terms of flight time, payload, scope and efficiency and which, at the same time, has a highly modular system architecture that can be adapted to all types of missions.

Jörg Schamuhn, co-founder and director general of Airial Robotics, explains "Our Gyrotrak technology is a hybrid AVSP disruptive solution, halfway between the helicopter and the autogyro. The innovative combination of the advantages of both systems creates such a unique and special technical platform, which leaves behind the current industry standards, and makes Gyrotrak a real change in the market. The Gyrotrak gives us the ability to at least double important factors such as flight time, range and payload, compared to traditional multicopter systems. In addition, long flights in the air and multiple take-offs and landings are not a problem, which is not the case and is not possible with many fixed-wing solutions from VTOL."

The Gyrotrak has a versatile, modular and individually adjustable structure, ideal for the commercial market, where the various fields of application require new solutions that are effective and precisely tailored to your needs. The new type of UAV meets the requirements of many sectors, including agriculture, logistics, as well as inspection or safety and surveillance.

Gyrotrak: the best of two worlds

The principle of self-rotation of the main rotor, known as auto-turns, not only ensures that the new Gyrotrak platform requires very little power in forward flight and has great flight stability, but also that the UAV itself can continue to land safely even if the engine fails. At the same time, the new hybrid solution has the positive characteristics of a helicopter, which can fly precisely on the ground, fly backwards if necessary, or also perform multiple take-offs and vertical landings during a mission.

The first product based on the new concept is the new fully electric GT20 Gyrotrak. It has a maximum take-off weight of 20 kg and is capable of carrying out LOS and BVLOS flights. The 12.5 kg payload can be distributed between the battery and the additional charge, depending on the mission. If the GT20 Gyrotrak is equipped with a professional camera of about 500 g, it can stay in the air for about 2.5 hours and travel up to 150 km at cruise speeds of 90 km/h.
