Review: Eachine EX3

Technical analysis · 8 May 2020 · 8 min read

Article from the Mundo Drone archive, published 8 May 2020 and updated 29 June 2020. Text merged on 28 October 2026 from all its 2020 versions; specifications, availability and regulations may have changed since.

The Eachine EX3 is in the top positions as one of Amazon's best-selling drones, and we're not exactly talking about a basic beginner drone... Of course, its features on paper make it a drone that, if it fulfills everything it promises, has an excellent quality/price ratio. Let's take a closer look at this drone.

Analysis and characteristics of the Eachine EX3

Eachine has built a drone with the square body (well, rectangular), which recalls much aesthetically the LanlanSJRC F11 Which seems to us to be a good idea, because aesthetically it gives it a very attractive air, at least from our point of view. But not only is it aesthetically attractive, but it has features and functions of the most striking so that this drone can shine with its own light within the drones of its segment. To name just one of its features, it has a 2K camera, whose resolution is higher than the normal 1920 by 1080P cameras we are used to in drones of this size. So, with this letter of introduction, we'll see if this drone is all it looks like.

Technical characteristics and details

The Eachine EX3 does not come precisely without interesting features. Bring them in. Here, we will briefly look at some of the most important:

Design, construction quality and durability

As you may have deduced from its design, this is a folding drone. The arms where the propellers are located fold very well next to the body of the drone, which makes it smaller and more compact to travel (portability is a fundamental theme when choosing a drone, those that we have loaded with drones to take them to unaccessible places we know what we are talking about...). The housing is made of plastic is quite strong and of good quality, which does not seem to break to the minimum of change with any accidental collision (always within reasonable, of course).

About the size... When deployed, it measures 45 by 45 by 7.6 centimeters and when folded, the size is reduced considerably to 19 by 17 by 7.6 centimeters, which is not necessarily small, but has a very portable size.

The Eachine EX3 mounts 2204 1400KV brushless engines. The advantages of brushless (or brushless) engines over brushless engines are enormous, as brushless engines have a much longer life span and will require minimal or no maintenance, or overheat, consume less energy and make much less noise.

The camera

The main reason why people buy drones with camera (although not the only one) is because they are looking for an aerial camera that allows them to take pictures and videos of their activities with family or friends and their travels. For almost any use that you want to give this EX3 2K 5G Wi-Fi camera, this camera would fulfill your purposes. The camera brings a 1-axis gimbal, which has as its main ending to change the viewing angle camera vertically, so it could be placed at an angle of 90o, which is fantastic to be able to make Zenital shots, which are of the most eye-catching that can be done with a drone.

It can also be used in FPV mode. The FPV uses the WiFi 5G connection and can stream videos in real time at a maximum distance of 400 meters. The view of the drone image will be made through a mobile device that can be attached to the remote controller at its top.

As far as image quality is concerned, let us say that for our taste it is a good quality, with a little abuse of the wide-angle, perhaps what makes the horizon look too curved, and we miss a greater stabilisation. If this drone had mounted a 3-axis gimbal, it would have more than surpassed its competition. In any case, the image quality is considered very correct.

Battery and flight autonomy

The 7.6V 3400mAh battery allows flight times of approximately 20 minutes, a figure that is a little above average compared to the drones in its segment. However, as we do on other occasions, for a fuller flight experience, we recommend purchasing additional batteries to extend flight time.

The Remote Controller

It is small, ergonomically shaped and the control buttons and stick are very sensitive, which can be a negative thing when you are learning to fly, but it is generally something that the most experienced pilots will appreciate. Smartphone support, which is certainly retractable, is located at the top of the remote control. It can be adapted to smartphones of all sizes. The remote control uses the frequency of 2.4GHz, which is shown to be very stable.

Aesthetically it is very similar, not to say a clone, to the command of the DJI Mavic Air For example, unless in this case the controller is not charged with lipo batteries but uses AA batteries.

The remote control will emit a buzz when the drone is low battery, to warn the pilot to land as soon as possible.

If not used on remote controller, the drone can also be handled directly with the mobile device, although this is an option that we do not usually recommend ever since the control of a drone with a dedicated device is always much more accurate, and it also offers greater flight range.

In-flight characteristics

The maximum speed of this drone is 40 km/h. This is also a good figure by comparing it with other drones in the competition, and it is also very useful for the use of the monitoring modes that we will detail later.

The Eachine EX3 has an optical flow positioning function that, together with ultrasonic height control, implies that the drone will be able to maintain its flight altitude fairly accurately.

On the other hand, it deserves to be stressed that this drone has RTH technology (Return to Home, or back home), which is always a plus of tranquility when we lose control of the device for some reason. It also incorporates automatic take-off and landing.

Below we will describe the intelligent flight functions:

  • Orbit mode: Selecting a specific building, object or position (called a point of interest) on the mobile device screen, the drone will continuously circulate clockwise around that preset point. The point of interest is set to 10 meters forward of the drone by default, but that parameter can be modified
  • Tap Fly: This flight mode allows the drone to fly on a course you have plotted on your mobile screen. This is a very interesting function as it allows you to concentrate on the recording of images while the drone continues that direction.
  • Active Track: This function allows you to select a moving person or object on the screen of the mobile device and the drone to follow it automatically. Effective distance: about 3-10 meters.
  • Headless mode: This is a useful feature for a beginner. Sometimes, when the drone is away from you, you may not have a clear visual reference to it and you may not know where the front and back of the drone are. Simply press the button for headless mode and the drone will be realigned to fly in the right direction.

In conclusion, say that this drone brings features that are incorporated in drones of very superior ranges and that it has a very good construction quality. If I had a slightly more stabilized image, it would be almost the perfect drone by now. its class.
