The drones of the range Matrice of the Asian Giant DJI are included in the category DJI Enterprise of the company, i.e. the division specializing in business and professional drones. These drones, in general, are designed to carry out professional tasks of all kinds, from rescue work, analysis of electrical lines, inspection of solar panels, rescue, surveillance, police work, professional cinematography and a long etc. (practically infinite) of those applications for which a consumption drone stays very short for different reasons that we will explain below.
But before we go into the description of the different models, let's explain for those people who don't know it, the term "useful load". We call "useful load" to objects that can carry a drone, explained in a very basic way. Although in most situations such objects will be cameras (which we will see later, as they exist of many types), there may be other types of payloads, such as smoke detectors, speakers, spotlights, etc.
One of the biggest differences between the three models of the Matrice 200 series is the number of payloads that can be equipped simultaneously.
Within this group of drones there are three categories: The series DJI Matrice 200, on DJI Matrice 300 RTK and the DJI Matrice 600 Pro.
Series DJI Matrice 200
The series DJI Matrice 200 is the most veteran of all, and is composed of tre drones that we will then compare: DJI Matrice 200, DJI Matrice 210 y DJI Matrice 210 RTK. The differences between these three models are subtle but at the same time important, and depending on the needs of the operations we are going to perform, they will make us choose one model or another.
With regard to the common characteristics of the three models, the main characteristics of the Matrice 200 series in general are as follows:
- They equip high-performance engines with 17-inch propellers, ensuring stable flights with winds up to 35 km/h.
- Self-heating dual battery system (i.e. automatically self-heat internally at temperatures below zero).
- IP43 level of protection for water and dust, which gives good resistance to these elements.
- The maximum operating distance is 7 KM.
- Maximum autonomy of 30 minutes.
- 2 KG maximum payload.
Here we look at the differences between the three models:
DJI Matrice 200
This is the most "basic" of the three models, as it allows only a "useful load" on a single lower stabilizer.
Main features:
- FPV cameras
- Dual battery system
- FlightAutonomy
DJI Matrice 210
Within this model, there are three configurations:
Main features:
- FPV cameras
- Dual battery system
- FlightAutonomy
- Multiple load configurations
- Universal ports
DJI Matrice 210 RTK
For the uninitiated... What is RTK? The RTK (English) Real Time Kinematic) or real-time satellite kinetic navigation, is a technique used for topography and marine navigation based on the use of phase measurements of browsers with GPS, GLONASS and/or Galileo signals, where a single reference station provides real-time corrections, obtaining submetric accuracy. When referring to the particular use of the GPS network, the system is also commonly referred to as DGPS (Phase Carrier Correction).
What does this basically mean? That equipment that has support for RTK is supported in a secondary way in measurements that makes a station, complementing the GPS signals, and that greatly increases the accuracy of the GPS itself, which in itself can have a margin of error of a few meters, but that with this technology, that precision is reduced to just a few centimeters. Needless to say, it has the advantages that this brings to certain works such as topodrapy, for example.
The configurations of the DJI Matrice 210 RTK are the same as those of the Matrice 210, i.e.:
Main features:
- FPV cameras
- Dual battery system
- FlightAutonomy
- Multiple load configurations
- Universal ports.
- Integrated RTK
DJI Matrice 300 RTK
This drone is the most recent and modern within the Matrice range of DJI, and comes to surpass (and by far, in many respects...) his brothers in the 200 series.
It has a surprising maximum range of up to 55 minutes, a maximum transmission distance of up to 15km, obstacle detection sensors in the 6 directions, protection against dust and IP45 water, operating temperature from -20oC to 50oC... That is, this drone is prepared for the most complex missions in the most hostile conditions.
As you can see in the image, in addition, this drone can be mounted 3 payloads simultaneously, which makes it much more versatile than its mates in the Matrice range.
Among other features to highlight, indicate that it emits the video signal between the drone and the remote controller by a tripe encoded at 1080p, which makes it in that tremendously robust sense. It is also capable of automatically switching between the transmission frequencies of 2.4 and 5.8 GHZ.
More amazing figures from this model:
- The maximum descent speed is now 7 m/s.
- The maximum flight height is 7000m above sea level.
- The maximum wind resistance is 12 m/s.
- The maximum flight speed is 23 m/s.
- The maximum load capacity is 2.7 kq.
With regard to their intelligent functions, the following are highlighted:
- Record Mission (Live Mission Recording): It records mission actions such as aircraft movement, stabilizer orientation, photo capture functions and zoom level to create sample mission files and automate future inspections.
- Artificial intelligence targeting (AI Spot-Check): Automate routine inspections and capture consistent results at all times. The artificial intelligence on board recognizes the objective of interest and identifies it in the following automated missions to ensure a coherent framing.
- Career 2.0 (Waypoints 2.0): Create up to 65 535 benchmarks and program multiple actions for one or more loads, even for third party loads, at each of these points. Flight route planning has also been optimized to maximize the flexibility and effectiveness of your missions.
- Mark (Pin Point): Mark an object on the camera or on the map display with just one touch. Advanced data fusion algorithms will automatically get their coordinates and project them into all camera views as an AR icon. The target location will be automatically shared with another remote control or online platforms such as DJI FlightHub.
- Smart Track: Identify and follow moving targets such as people, vehicles or ships with the Smart Track function. Automatic zoom is applied to achieve stable monitoring and visualization. The dynamic location of the target is continuously obtained and shared with another remote control or DJI FlightHub
As far as security is concerned, this drone has virtually all its main electronic systems duplicated (called redundancy), so that in the event of failure of one of them, the other automatically enters into operation.
These and many more details make this drone, most likely, the most advanced business drone that exists today.
DJI Matrice 600 Pro
This is the "biggest brother" as far as size is concerned, as it is much larger than the rest of the Drones in the Matrice series. Although it is a drone that has already been on the market for a while and is not as modern in performance as for example the Matrice 300, it is still a drone that still has a lot of pull in the market due, among other things, to its greater load capacity, and in it you can mount for example professional cameras and cinemas.
As far as the electronic part is concerned, this drone mounts an A3 Pro flight controller tripe, a system that has long been known and is exceptionally robust.
As we have said before, it is a drone thinking mainly for cinematography, with a load capacity of up to 6 kg. You can install multiple camera configurations, and it is compatible for example with DJI's Ronin MX system, most Zenmuse cameras, etc.
To give greater versatility to the camera's viewing range, the landing gear is retractable and rises when it is in flight, thus being able to rotate the lower chambers in 360°.
Mount up to 6 smart batteries, which also work redundantly if necessary as well as the rest of the Drones of the Matrice range, and as does the DJI Inspire 2For example.
As one might expect from a drone of these characteristics, it is prepared to broadcast live video professionally with the DJI Lightbridge 2 system.
Conclusions
The entire seire Matrice is designed to meet the most demanding business needs today in a different way, and each model has its own characteristics that will make it fit the specific missions that companies require.
DJI has always been at the forefront of drone technology in general, and even more so in the business arena, where above all its latest models such as DJI Matrice 300 place the brand in the reference to follow in terms of business solution drones.
